About Me

Hello, I’m Miranda! Welcome to My Anosmic Kitchen.

I live and cook in Cape Town, South Africa, where my kitchen is often filled with flour-dusted countertops, fresh pasta, and the comforting scent of Sunday sauce simmering away. Even though I live with anosmia and can’t smell the aromas myself, my gut feeling is in tune — and Peanut, my very opinionated fur baby, agrees.

I’m a self-taught home cook with a passion for flavor-first dishes, all designed to be simple, satisfying, and sometimes a little adventurous. Cooking is a way for me to connect with others, share stories, and build memories.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Flavor-packed recipes for slow weekends, warm kitchens, and food that always hits the spot 💛.

  • Home cooking tips & tricks to make your time in the kitchen easy and enjoyable.

  • And a little inspiration for you to try new things, even on your busiest days.

Popular Recipes & Sneak Peeks

To give you a better feel for what you’ll find in My Anosmic Kitchen, here are a few of my favorite recipes to make:

Creamy Mushroom Pasta
I make this often when I want something satisfying, comforting, and easy to throw together. (It’s one of my absolute favorites, okay, maybe the favorite pasta dish!)

Spaghetti Aglio Olio e Peperoncino
This pasta is by far the most repeated dinner in our house—and for good reason! It’s my husband's favorite, requires the least number of ingredients, and comes together in minutes. And let me tell you, it’s worth its weight in words... (try saying Spaghetti Aglio Olio e Peperoncino on repeat, I dare you!)

Rustic Ciabatta Bread
Bread—just homemade bread, really. I love baking it, but sometimes I find myself thinking, “I just can’t keep up with this!” It's flying off the counter. But do I stop making more? Of course not! The process of making bread (and pasta) is my time for solitude and reflection in the kitchen.

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad
Salads are an interesting thing in our house. For two reasons: First, my husband eats a salad every single day. His version of a perfect salad? Just lettuce. Yep, that's it. A giant bowl of lettuce, no other ingredients. His dressing? Salt, extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar—and in that order. I mean, is that even a complete vinaigrette? Apparently, yes.
The second reason is my love for full salads! Chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, carrots, red onion, grilled peaches, and just about anything I can turn into a summer fruit salad, couscous salad, or Christmas salad. So, my challenge? I have to make tiny salads or eat them quickly while they’re fresh (because guess who ends up finishing the cucumber?). Challenge accepted.

Lentils
A pantry-friendly dish that’s full of flavor. Especially during winter when I take it up a notch and make drop dumplings from flour and water to add to the pot! It brings back such wonderful memories of my childhood.

Why I Started My Blog

I started My Anosmic Kitchen because cooking is my way of bringing people together, even when I can’t experience the scents the way most people do. I believe food isn’t just about taste — it’s about texture, color, and the joy of sharing meals with those you love. This blog is a place for me to share that passion and connect with others who love cooking and trying new things.
